Bengies Drive-In Memorial Day All Night Show 2015

Matthew and I went to the Bengies Drive-In tonight for the Memorial Day All Night Show. We didn't pay the 10 buck to bring outside food in, which was a mistake. I need my thermos of coffee to make it through a marathon like that. And of course, the best movies were the last two (Mad Max and Ex-Machina). I really can't say I saw either one of those, I kept drifting in and out. Fast and Furious 8 was so bad it made Paul Blart Mall Cop II look great.

1st Night at the Bengies in 2014

Matthew and I went to the Bengies Drive-In tonight. It was Sunday night so it was a double feature instead of the usual triple feature. We saw "Godzilla 2014" and "300: Rise of an Empire". They were both good. I'm glad we went, I didn't make it to a single show in 2013. Also, it was cold, really cold. We were all wrapped up in comforters trying to keep warm. 1st Night at the Bengies 2012

Matthew and I went to the Bengies on the day before the 4th of July (a Tuesday). We saw "Men In Black 3" and "The Amazing Spiderman". They were both good but I thought "Men In Black 3" was better, really funny. Before the show, "D" talked about the lawsuit he recently won against the Royal Farms store across the street. If the verdict stands, he's going to build a wall to block out the light.

1st Night At The Bengies

Went to our first show at the Bengies this weekend. Natalie, Matthew, Tara and I went. The movies were all good (the new "Pirates" was the weakest). Hard to believe Natalie went,  she never wants to go, but she wanted to see "Thor" for some reason.

The box office will OPEN on Friday & Saturday at 7pm,  BUT a little later on Sunday at 7:15pm,  with the show starting all 3 nights at sunset, which will occur THIS weekend at about 8:15pm.

NOTICE: we will not allow one person in a vehicle to occupy space on busy nights.  If you are joining others here at the Bengies, please "hook up" outside the theatre and use one vehicle.  We cannot turn away families because we ran out of space due to folks thinking that the Bengies is a parking lot!  You MAY park at our good neighbor's lot that is the yellow or orange-ish brick building next to the drive-in theater's entrance, (Austen's) if you park correctly, and then you may walk down the roadway to purchase a ticket and join your party.    IF YOU ARE A REGULAR CUSTOMER that normally comes alone, PLEASE email us through the website at least a day prior to your visit and tell us who you are, the year, make, color and model of your vehicle and we may be able to email you an exception.   See the other notes on this in the "BE READY TO ATTEND" link below, and watch for a special email notice on this next week.

On the BIGGEST theatre screen in the USA, our MAIN attraction is the newest installment of the continuing saga of the "PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN...ON STRANGER TIDES" rated PG13.  This time, Jack Sparrow (shouldn't there be a captain in there somewhere...?) holds the key to the Fountain of Youth!  Ken and I saw this at the trade screening (Sean had too much to do,... go figure...) and we came away with the same feeling.  It was fast, fun and we did not feel the 131minute running time at at all!  However we both agreed that was absolutely no reason for this to be in 3D.  "PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN...ON STRANGER TIDES" will show Friday and Saturday in the second position at 10pm, but much earlier on Sunday after our twilight opening which starts at 8:15pm.

Our co-feature is HELD OVER by OVERWHELMING DEMAND, the new action adventure from MARVEL COMICS  "THOR" is rated PG13 in [ << W I D E -- S C R E E N>> ]  "THOR," Marvel Comics' God of Thunder is cast down to Earth among humans where he must learn what it takes to be a true hero. Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, AND Anthony Hopkins are among a few of the all star cast.  "THOR" will show AFTER "Pirates..." all 3 nights, which means it will begin after the box office closes (due to the running time of "Pirates." . So on Friday and Saturday you MUST be in by midnight when the box office closes, and the box office closes on Sunday at 10:30pm.   You must be in by box office closing time in order to see this feature.  NO ONE is admitted to the Bengies Drive-In Theater AFTER the box office is closed!

Bengies Facebook Night

We finally made it to the Bengies for the first time this season. I was starting to wonder if we were going to make it this year. That would have been the first time in maybe decades that we didn't go at least once. And it was free to boot.

It was Facebook Night at the Bengies. You had to print out an invitation through Facebook to get in. The movies were "E.T." and "North by Northwest". I've seen both of them many times but it was still fun. Tommy, Matthew and I went. It was really cold. A free box of popcorn or a funnel cake was included with the invitation. I had funnel cake. They also had prize drawings and we won a prize package that included a carload pass, a tee shirt, a bumper sticker, and a key chain flashlight.

First Trip To The Bengies in 2009 - Memorial Day Dusk To Dawn Show

Matthew and I went to the Bengies for the first time this year for the annual Memorial day all-night show. We both made it through until the sun came up and D. played the national anthem to end the show. We evening stayed awake through "Obsessed".

The Line-Up:

Coraline - Really good and the best movie of the night. In the vein of "Nightmare Before Christmas" and "The Corpse Bride" but better. And weirder. 4 Timmyheads.


Star Trek - Not your father's Star Trek my ass. A steaming pile of lameness. The only cutting edge thing about it was Eric Bana as the Bad Ass and his summary execution (not shown) of the captain of the Kelvin. Matthew liked it though.


Obsessed - Another winner from Beyonce (remember "Goldmember"). Only lots, and lots of T&A could have saved this one.


Knowing - Pretty good but kind of weak towards the end. Reading up about this one is what convinced me to go to the all-night show. Real Sci-Fi, not "Gossip Girl" in space.

Bengies - First Show Of 2008

Matthew, Jeremy and I went to our first show of the year at the Bengies today. The line-up was Speed Racer, Indiana Jones And The Crystal Skull and Iron Man. Pretty action-packed, much better than what they had for the all-night show last week. Veggie Tales? Give me a break! And this was an all-night show too, we didn't get in the car to leave until 3:50.
All three movie were good but my favorite was Speed Racer. Matthew said something about people who have seizures should not watch this movie and he was right. Lots of quick cuts and flashing colors. Iron Man was good too. The new Indiana Jones was the weakest of the bunch and that ending - they all lived happily ever after - was really sappy.

At The Drive-In, May 4th, 2007

Matthew, Jeremy and I went to the Bengies last night. Here's the breakdown:

• Are We Done Yet? It was pretty funny - at first, but then like every other crappy comedy, it had to get serious.
• Spiderman III It was good but I'm not a big fan of the whole franchise. The young'uns liked it. I found out later that I slept though one of the best parts - the whole black suit/subway fight with the Sandman.
• Ghost Rider The best of the bunch, I thought, although the ending was weak. Peter Fonda and the actor from American Beauty were great as the bad guys.

The Bengies was packed! They even had cars parked behind the concession stand. And it was cold (it was supposed to get down to 40 and it felt like it).

D.Vogel sent out an email about the traffic jam outside the Bengies Friday night.

Bengies Labor Day Dusk To Dawn Show

Mike, Matthew and I sat through five movies at the Bengie's Dusk to Dawn show Saturday night. It had been raining for days (the remains of tropical storm Ernesto) but it was supposed to clear out that afternoon. It was still drizzling when we first got there but stopped just as the first cartoon started. I dosed off a little bit during My Super Ex-Girlfriend, but other than that, I made it till dawn. The line-up and order was:

1. Cars (Better the second time around)
   
2. The Wicker Man (It was alright)
   
3. My Super Ex-Girlfriend (The beginning was funny but then, as usual, it turned serious)
   
4. The Da Vinci Code (Good but hard to follow)
   
5. The Descent (The Best of the Bunch)

Bengies, Yard Sale Finds & Patrick's 10th

Went to the Bengies again Sunday with Matthew. We saw Cars and X-Men III. They were both pretty good. If you liked Toy Story, A Bugs Life, etc., you'll like Cars. X-Men III was pretty dark and depressing (for an action/adventure film). Although all three of them have been good, it's been kind of downhill with this series since the first one. D.Vogel told us to make sure we stayed till the end of the credits or we'd miss something.

I bought a lot of stuff at a neighborhood yard sale over on Hazelwood Avenue Saturday. A bunch of CDs and VHS tapes, two pairs of pants, a cool Orioles hat, a marble cheese slicer, a briefcase, a couple of audio cassettes and an adjustable arm lamp. It's a sickness. Later on the three of us (Tom didn't want to go) went over to Howard and Dolores for Patrick's 10th birthday party. I'll post some pictures of that later.

Bengies Drive-In: 50th Anniversary Show

"I bet the three Vogel brothers, who opened this drive-in 50 years ago tonight, never thought it would still be here for it's Silver Anniversary".

Tuesday night was the 50th Anniversary of the Grand Opening of the Bengies Drive-In. The features were all from the 50's: Humphrey Bogart and Rod Stieger in The Harder They Fall and Burt Lancaster, Tony Curtis and Gina Lollobrigida in Trapeze .(Edge to Edge on the biggest screen on the East Coast!). I thought I had never seen The Harder They Fall until the bus with the fighter cut-outs on the side showed up - I must have seen it on broadcast TV when they used to show movies. Trapeze I remember very well, maybe I saw it at the Earl Theater. In those days, it wasn't unusual for theaters to have a movie that was made years before. Maybe it was part of a double-feature. Anyway, I had fun and both movies were good. D. Vogel (the owner) seemed pretty choked up about the whole thing, especially when he talked about his father.

Bengies Drive-In: Our First Show of 2006

Matthew and I went to the Bengies Drive-In

Saturday night. They had a pretty good line-up for a change (in other words, it wasn't all G-Rated family crap). It was packed - I don't know if I've ever seen it so crowded. Cars as far as the eye could see. It was the opening weekend for Ice Age and Scary Movie IV.

First up was Ice Age II: The Meltdown - it was good. I liked it better than the first one, I think ( I'll have to go back and watch the first one again to make sure). Next up was Scary Movie IV. If you have seen any of the Scary Movies you know what to expect. It wasn't as good as the first and not nearly near as raunchy. Last up was The Hills Have Eyes, which was really good. My only complaint - not enough Billy Drago!

Last Bengies Show of 2005

Busy day today. Went to a party at Ron & Carols. We had a good time and would have stayed longer but the boys and I were going to the drive-in later that night - Mike had a carload pass. Man, it was cold. After the movies were over (About 1:00 AM), Jocelyn's car had a thick coating of frost. The movies were good - Flight Plan and Doom. We saw the last part of The Greatest Game - that looked good too. No more Bengies till next spring.
